MCDOT expanded free bike-sharing and electric scooter programs for basic workers
The Montgomery County Department of Transportation has extended special programs to Capital Bikeshare and Lyft Electric Sc Ooters to offer free memberships to basic workers during the coronavirus crisis until May 31.
Membership offers workers unlimited free rides for up to 30 minutes.Capital Bikeshare will also continue to offer $1 tickets to all riders, according to the county.
These programs are designed to help key workers get to and from work.Montgomery County residents of Montgomery County are essential workers, and non-resident essential workers can sign up for free 30-day membership, including Capital Bikeshare and Lyft electric scooters.
Employees or employers can receive a 30-day free membership at any time until May 31 by e-mailing HeroBikes@Lyft.com.
Workers at Capital Bikeshare have been cleaning high-contact surfaces on bikes and trucks used to transport them.According to the county, workers also wear gloves when handling bicycles.
