Gogoro’s first electric bike will arrive in the United States next month
Gogoro, an electric scooter company founded by two former HTC senior designers and technicians, is about to launch the first electric bike under its new Eeyo sub-brand.It will make its U.S. debut in May, then head to Europe and the company's home island of Taiwan sometime in the summer.
Gogoro made a splash with the launch of the first Smartscooter in 2015.Technologically advanced scooters not only look great, but also feature an innovative battery replacement subscription service and an app that lets you personalize your journey.Gogogo riders can replace a depleted battery in seconds by pulling up any 24/7 GoStation.Since then, the company has produced a variety of scooter designs that have brought fun and fashion to the scooter-obsessed Taipei and the two-wheeled culture that followed.
What does this tell us about the new Gogoro Eeyo e-bike?Well, nothing is certain, but the Gogoro scooter has infiltrated the technology in advanced electric bikes. Some examples include on-board computers with upgradeable firmware, anti-theft systems using proximity or biometric keys (such as automatic locking and unlocking), anti-scraping paint, integrated hub motors, Gates carbon belt drives, loose batteries and hydraulic disc brakes. The company also has a long-term relationship with Bosch.
Now is surely a great time to buy an e-bike, assuming you can still afford a boom amid unemployment and financial uncertainty. With sickly cities eager to get back to work as an alternative to vaccines, e-bikes are becoming more attractive to commuters who want to avoid public transport, keep the air clean and exercise their lungs in the process.
