Redditch offers THUMBS UP for the long-awaited experiment with electric scooters
Finally, REDDITCH got the go-ahead to host a long-awaited trial of electric scooters.
Although a bid from Borough Council to become a pilot zone has been approved, it is unclear which company won the contract, although Bird, the US subcompact car company, appears to be the leader.
The council is expected to reveal more details tomorrow.
Another company bidding for the contract is Bolt, which has extensive participation in the European market for electric scooters.
Meanwhile, Swedish company Voi has been appointed to trial electric scooters for a year in the West Midlands, while Birmingham and Coventry city centres are among the first sites to use them.
Mike Rouse, vice President of the Redditch Borough Council, said: "Good news!You can quickly rent electric scooters in Redditch.
"We are now at the forefront of ActiveTravel, providing innovation for our towns and the way we transport."
Currently, the pilot area will be located in the city center.
