Basic business, including electric scooter companies, was discussed at the Hillsborough County meeting
Tampa, Fla. - Before Governor Ron DeSantis's "Stay Home" executive order took effect, Hillsborough County was trying to be lenient and keep non-essential operations open even during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Hillsborough County Board chairman Les Miller said: "We allow them to do their job and keep the business open, but keep it six feet away."
What is an essential business or activity in Florida?
Consider one essential business: electric scooter companies because they fall into the transportation category.
Tampa's mayor, Jane Castor, pointed out that the device is cleaned three times a day, which SPIN scooters have confirmed to FOX 13.
Nabil Syed, Regional General Manager, Spin Scooters, said: "Scooters have been wiped and staff are wearing gloves.""When they go out to retrieve the scooters, they disinfect not only the scooters they interact with, but the scooters in the area."
BIRD, another Company that operates electric scooters in Tampa, says it follows similar guidelines and has increased the number of times it cleans its scooters. However, Due to COVID-19, Lime Scooter Company has suspended its service.
Another point is the CDC's recommendation that everyone wear a mask in public, supported by the Hillsborough County Department of Health.
"I see people wearing masks, and I think they're doing a good service to reduce the risk of infecting others," said Dr. Douglas Holt, the county's director of health.
Commissioner Miller said it was a recommendation that they are promoting to the community.
