The New York City council approved another extension of the electric scooter pilot program
At a virtual conference on April 8th city officials approved another extension of the pilot programme for electric scooters, which will allow micro-transport services to continue uninterrupted until a permanent supplier is found.
The pilot program, with five suppliers, began in July 2019 and was initially scheduled to end in October 2019.In January 2020, the Commissioner voted to extend the programme to find a permanent supplier or until April 2020, whichever comes first.
"It is expected that a permanent supplier will be in place by the end of the trial," the staff reported.
Following the Committee meeting in January 2020, a request for a quote from a permanent supplier was made.
"If required, this option does not take into account the timing of a re-inquiry," the staff reported."In this case, the initial bid for a supplier of permanent electric scooters was rejected to ensure that all applicants had a chance to meet the ideal goals of the MWSBE (ethnic minorities, women and small businesses)."
Staff reported that a second inquiry was being prepared for the permanent supplier.
